Avoid unnecessary use of alcohol-containing gas treatment products when running your engine on E10 fuel.

AVOID unecessary use of "Gas Additives & Fuel System Treatment Products" that contain alcohol with E10 gas blends.

Products that contain strong solvents, emulsifiers and water-absorbing agents should also be avoided with E10.
More Tips:
- Avoid gas additives that are water soluble.  Use caution if additive is not compatible with strong "oxidizing" agents.
- Avoid products that state they will push water at bottom of tank back into upper petroleum layer - You do NOT want to constantly be running your engine on water-diluted, lean fuel.
- Since E10 is a strong solvent, cleanser, anti-freeze and octane enhancer, regular use of additional gas additives is usually unnecessary - Only unique circumstances will determine the need for additive use, (E.G. prolonged gas storage, high humidity/moist environments, marine engines, older vehicles).
- Following simple precautions is usually enough to safely manage E10 in most (newer) engines, when you replace gas every 2-3 weeks.

Using alcohol-based and strong solvent additives as a preventive measure in fresh, good e10 gasoline is not recommended,
since this will only increase water absorption and parts disintegration,
and may also raise ethanol content over manufacturer recommended 10% maximum.

Please do not misinterpret the purpose of the chart below. Many reputable gas treatment products contain alcohols and ethanol.
But ask yourself, why add more alcohol, for "prevention" for ethanol alcohol-caused gas problems? Simply makes no sense...

While several products in the market can help to combat specific negative effects of ethanol, no "miracle" product exists for all situations.  Don't fall prey to deceptive advertising using scare tactics. The majority of engines on the road do NOT require additional gas additives with E10 -

Additives should only be used with ethanol-blends when absolutely necessary.
Examples: Ethanol gas causing drying out or disintegration of parts? Chose a lubricating fuel conditioner.
Excessive water absorption in tank? After ruling out all possible causes, (E.G. Gas water-contaminated at time of purchase, dislodged hose or other repairable open entry in fuel system) - Chose a product that delays phase separation or breaks down water molecules (stabilizer).
Rusting of engine parts? Chose a corrosion inhibitor...Etc.

REVIEW LIST:
Does your gas additive contain alcohol and/or water soluble ingredients?
(For information purposes only - There are literally many thousands of additive products - Products listed are for illustrative purposes only).
General Comments:
For prevention, it is best to avoid additives that contain strong solvents, alcohols and water-absorbing ingredients when gas already contains ethanol (e10).  Improper use of gas additives may increase risks and cause damage to engine.

Beware of misleading product claims, it is scientifically impossible to "remove all water from fuel" with just a liquid additive.

The brand of gasoline and type of engine should always be considered when choosing to use any gas additive product.
Gasoline already contains many of the same ingredients used in many fuel additive/gas treatment products.
- Often the 10% ethanol in E10 replaces the need for any additional fuel system cleansing agents or solvents. -

Over the years we have received numerous reports from consumers who have experienced engine damage from contaminated (E10) gasoline. There are many varied reasons for actual cause of damage, including poor quality gasoline, improper E10 fuel management, misuse of gas additives. and more...

We prefer to not recommend any specific products "to all" for prevention, since engine details and problem you are treating is necessary to be able to determine if any additive would help, or not.

Hint: You do NOT want to force excess water back into gas; You do NOT want to add ethanol alcohol to manage E10 side effects;
Strong emulsifiers will not only force alcohol/water back into petroleum gas, they may also solidify engine lubricating oils and gasoline ingredients, causing clogging, gelling and gunk throughout the engine.
Alcohol based products may be used to treat gas that is already phase separated to remove water and restore octane, but adding more alcohol to good E10 gas for prevention simply makes no sense to us.

Notes:
(1) Shellsol is an industrial solvent chemical found in many products. Shellsol D60 chemical name = Solvent Naphtha (Petroleum) Medium Aliphatic. Shellsol is a registered trademark of Shell.
(2) Seafoam MSDS lists "IPA" under ingredients. The only commonly used term for abreviation IPA =Isopropyl Alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is soluble in water. Seafoam Sales Company did not respond to our request for more information.
(3) April 07, 2009 - "Ingredients, alcohol content and water solubility" listed in chart for #131 Neutra Fuel Stabilizer (Schaeffer Manufacturing Company) REMOVED due to telephone request from Schaeffer Company representative (P.H.)  Information included in chart was obtained directly from product MSDS, which is public information. It concerns us whenever a company attempts to withhold information from consumers.  Contact company directly for product information or contact EPA for assistance. Neutra #131 is registered with the EPA.
